Frightened Rabbit | “The Loneliness”
from The Winter of Mixed Drinks | Fat Cat

Frightened Rabbit | “The Wrestle”
from The Winter of Mixed Drinks | Fat Cat

This Tuesday will also see a new release from Scottish four-piece Frightened Rabbit.  The Winter of Mixed Drinks is the excellent follow-up to their acclaimed 2008 debut The Midnight Organ Fight. Frightened Rabbit have a really big, majestic sound that’s hard to ignore.  Their music draws you in; it commands your attention.  I expected big things from these guys, and they totally delivered.  Anyway, have a great weekend.  Enjoy!

The Morning Benders | “Excuses”
from Big Echo | Rough Trade

The Morning Benders | “Promises”
from Big Echo | Rough Trade

The Morning Benders are a Berkeley, California 3-piece. Rough Trade will release their second full-length Big Echo this coming Tuesday. In the past, the band has opened for the likes of Death Cab for Cutie, Ra Ra Riot, and Grizzly Bear.  Lately, I’ve heard a lot of talk about finding the “west coast Grizzly Bear.”  We may have a winner.  In fact, Big Echo was produced by Grizzly Bear bassist Chris Taylor, so it’s even got their fingerprints on it.

OK Go teams up with director James Frost and Synn Labs to give you their latest piece of musical debauchery–if memory serves, these are the same guys that did the crafty treadmill vid a year or two back. Enjoy.

Cults | “Go Outside”
from Cults 7″

Gorillaz | “Plastic Beach MiniMix”
from Plastic Beach | Virgin Records

Nada Surf | “Electrocution” (Bill Fox Cover)
from If I Had A Hi-Fi | Mardev

Broken Social Scene | “World Sick”
from Forgiveness Rock Record | City Slang

We haven’t heard new material from Broken Social Scene for 5 years–they’re set to release a full-length, “Forgiveness Rock Record”, on May 3rd. Though it’s still a decent listen, I hope I’m not underwhelmed by the rest of the LP so much as I was by this joint. If you’ve got the opportunity to see these guys after the album drops, I suggest you put forth the fullest effort to do so–they put on the best live performance I’ve seen to date. Enjoy.

Something like a jungle in the pre-dawn on a veranda in a hammock when it’s raining then it’s sunup so the rain quits but the mist stays.  But backwards.

Enjoy everything past the jump.

Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros | “Home”
from Up From Below | Vagrant

“Do you remember that day you fell out of my window?”

It’s an idea that’s probably as old as the medium:  the lovers’ dialogue.  The June & Johnny, if you will.  When it’s real—and you know it’s real when you hear it—you can’t help but feel swept off your feet.  Swept to where you’ve been, who you were with.  Swept to where you are now, who you are with.  Or swept to where you’re going, and who you wish to see by your side.  But let this jaunty march ground you—keep you on your feet; keep things in perspective. Home can be so many places. Maybe you’re there, maybe you’re not. Draw yourself a map.

Vagrant released Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros debut Up From Below last July. While I can’t speak for the rest of the record, “Home” is a fantastic song. I hope you dig it as much as I dig it.
